Lapis lazuli is a deeply prized metamorphic rock known for its royal blue color. Its been popular for jewelry, pigments, and art since at least 4000BC. Primarily composed of lazurite, calcite, and pyrite today almost all of the Lapis Lazuli that you see is sourced from central asia but there are other minor areas like Canada, the USA and Russia. It is found in Chile where it is sold in tourist markets. Until blue pigment was made several hundred years ago almost all blue paint was made from Lapis Lazuli coloring. Thousands of paintings at the Louvre has Lapis Lazuli pigment – including The Mona Lisa. Very often has gold color flakes mixed in (Flakes are actually Pyrite – not gold). It is 5.5 on mohs hardness scale making it great for carving and cabochon cut gemstones. A very popular stone for making jewellery and carvings.
Ancient civilizations like the Greek, Mesopotamian and especially the Egyptians loved and wore it and was used in funerary practices – it was used in making King Tutankhamun’s mask.
Lapis lazuli is believed to calm the mind and bring deep inner peace. It encourages self-reflection and self-expression, helping you understand and communicate your true feelings. It is used to help reduce headaches and migraines.
Lapis lazuli is commonly used to activate and balance the third eye chakra, fostering deeper spiritual awareness.
As with all crystal healing remember that it is not a replacement for modern medical practices and should only be used as a parallel healing and treatment – not replacing it
